About Me

Award-winning designer, Laura Clatworthy (nee. Carnell), graduated with a 1st in Contemporary Crafts from University College Falmouth in 2008. Since then, she has been running her company, Rara Design (rara-design.co.uk), specialising in metal-inlaid hardwood items, from furniture and floor / wall tiles, to interior products and sculpture. More recently, she has opened junkshopUK (junkshopUK.etsy.com), where can be found many weird and wonderful vintage treasures discovered on her travels throughout the Westcountry.

An Associate Member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Laura has also been a member of the Association of British Pewter Craftsmen since 2007, and works to incorporate this traditional metal into contemporary furniture and products. She has won 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes at Pewter Live, an annual design competition hosted by the Worshipful Company of Pewterers and judged by Sebastian Conran, among others, and regularly shows her work throughout London and the South West. Her work has also been featured at the Milan Furniture Fair.

She works sustainably, always aiming to minimise her impact on the environment. All of the wood she uses comes either from FSC Certified trees, local sustainably-managed woodlands or is salvaged from local windblown trees and the scrap heap. She has a grounding in painting, printmaking and ceramics, and with a keen interest in philosophy, brings conceptual thinking to her craft work.
